What if I told you that it is the small things that matter most? That the little actions you do on a daily basis can result in your end goal?
You'd probably say I'm full of it, but I am not lying. Let me explain how something so minuscule can add up to incredible results.
If you've been paying attention to my social medias, you've noticed that I am beginning a #DailyDownwardDog Challenge. If you haven't seen it yet, check out the post HERE! For this challenge, I am simply trying to hold a downward dog pose for only one minute per day. Yes...one, singular minute.
Why only a minute? Well, because I know that it is something I can definitely do on a daily basis! By starting with a minute, I am guaranteeing my success and that I will adhere to the challenge. It is about staying realistic and true to what I am willing to do daily.
Now, it is easy to think that a minute is worthless or that it is easy to skip a day and just do two minutes the next day, right? Well, sure...but that isn't the challenge. We are trying to create a daily habit and lifestyle choice for ourselves. To have the discipline to consistently do one minute per day is much better than 7 minutes on one day of the week. After all, repetition is the start of creating a habit. The more you do a task, the easier it will be to remember in the future and like Nike and, "JUST DO IT!"
There are 365 days in a year, right? (Give or take for what .34 of an extra day there is or something. Idk, I'm not a scientist!) If you do the Daily Downward Dog for one minute per day for a year, that’s 365 minutes in the downward dog position! Imagine all the benefits your body will feel from that many minutes of this pose! (Granted my math is correct, which I am 99.99% sure it is!)
At the end of the day, what are you going to be more happy with? Either you can skip your minute or plop your hands and feet down on the floor to make it happen! It is only a singular minute. However, this minute turns into a huge reward at the end of the year.
No, these are not results you will see overnight, but we are not and cannot fix all of our problems in one day! We are here for the long haul and trying to make our lives better as we age. Along with that, we are taking care of ourselves in a manner that is not only sustainable, but realistic. Forget all of the quick fix stuff! It doesn't work and it isn't worth it! Start the slow grind today and never look back!
You can do this for anything you can imagine! Do it at home, the gym, at work. Wherever! It can be doing 10 squats, giving yourself 1 minute to meditate, knocking out 10 push-ups in the morning once you're out of bed and anything so much more! Create a small, habitual task and never let up on it. If you do this, the results you'll see after a year will be incredible.
So what do you say? Are you up for the challenge? (The correct answer is yes!) If you decide to do it, post it on your Instagram story with the hashtag #dailydownwarddog and tag me in it @thecbeffect! (If you take a video of yourself just getting down and going for it in your cubicle or at work, I will love you forever! Seriously! Get me that video because I need that in my life!) I'll keep you accountable and make sure you keep up with the challenge! Let's do this thing and see how we feel come next year!
