What People Really Need to Say Instead of, "Eat For Your Body."

So you are scrolling through social media (Facebook, let's say), and you're starting to watch this hilarious video about a dog who talks to it's owners. Then, the ad hits.

It's this random shirtless dude who looks pretty ripped and he starts talking to you about how you need to eat for your body. How your body has specific needs based on a test that only he can give you. He promises that you'll see results if you eat EXACTLY how you need to for your body and how he tells you. He does the whole click on my channel thing or blah, blah, blah.

Now, you obviously want to get back to your dog video so you don't visit his website. However, now whenever you think about fitness, you are thinking you need to eat based on your body type and how you look. I mean, it seems legit. Right? Makes total sense that you haven't seen the results you want because you haven't been eating for your body type. Maybe this is the magic you need to finally get in shape!

Well...let me explain to you why it's all a bunch of hocus pocus.

Of course everyone is different! We are human beings and unique in all of our various ways. However, all of our bodies still react to the Laws of Thermodynamics similarly. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. (AKA the fancy way of saying you eat too much, you'll gain weight, you eat less, you'll lose weight.)

The game has never been eating correctly for your body, it has always been eating however you need in order to reach your goals. It can be fat loss, muscle building, total recomposition, etc. The simple fact is that you need to eat for your goal.

Eating in a proportion of 40% protein, 30% fat and 30% carb is not what's going to save you. However many calories you are eating throughout the day and listening to your body is what will give you results.

Maybe you feel good eating low-carb because carbs always make you feel bloated. Then awesome! Go low-carb but still keep your calories in check so you don't gain weight. Same thing goes for high-fat/high protein diets. If that's what makes you feel good, go for it! At the end of the day, all that matters is the energy you have consumed overall. From there, your body will either lose or store fat.

You need to eat in a way that feels good to you, not what some nutrition "guru" tells you to eat! You know your body and what it reacts well to.

If good to you means losing weight really quick because you aren't eating any carbs, then no. You are wrong and fooling yourself. All that is happening is you are losing water weight because carbs are stored as water in the body, so don't take that initial weight loss as fat loss and think it's good. Along with this, your energy levels matter. If you feel like you can't function but you are doing great with weight loss, you are fooling yourself again. You still need to be able to move, live and workout. If the diet you're on leaves you malnourished, just stop.

The key to your diet is finding what you can do consistently and successfully. So that means avoiding fad diets, tea detoxes or juice cleanses and focus on eating whole, nutrient-dense foods. Think about eating for life! You aren't going to lose all of your weight in 30 days because you didn't gain it all in 30 days. Stay realistic and true.

It will take some trial and error. Trust the process and continue moving forward. One day doesn't dictate all of your progress and one meal doesn't ruin your whole day. Forgive and forget. Then you keep on trucking and making it happen.

Your goals are on the line here and are in your own hands. Don't wait for the perfect time or place. Start today and you'll get to where you want to be. It is not a straight shot to success. It is a winding and twisty road with multiple detours, but you can get through it and still make it the end.

Don't think about eating for your body type, think about eating for you and what you like. You aren't eating for anyone but yourself. Figure out what works and go from there.

I hope this clears some stuff up for you and helps you see through the crap. There will always be people trying to sell you on false claims. Don't fall for them and save your money.
